BlackRock’s IBIT Falls 5.3%, Highest Single Drop in 4 Months

The BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) share pricing has recorded a sizable drop following unfounded concerns that Bitcoin’s security might be compromised by quantum computing. BlackRock IBIT Leads Bitcoin Accumulation Spree Precisely, the spot Bitcoin (BTC) ETF price fell by 5.3%, going down to $54.73. This is the biggest single-day drop the offering has seen since early August, per data source Investing.com. It is not likely that the new developers will impact BlackRock’s Bitcoin accumulation spree. The investment asset management firm with MARA Holdings recently acquired a staggering 9,173 BTC valued at $897 million. This crypto ETF has recorded massive inflows , leaving behind the likes of Grayscale. Bitcoin Price Drops to $94,000 as Google Introduces Quantum Chips Bitcoin went from trading at $97,000+ to losing about 4% of its price gain. Earlier Tuesday, the coin traded at $94,300 when overleveraged altcoin traders were liquidated. This led to bigger losses in the broader crypto market. Noteworthy, the losses, though typical in a bull market, became notable on Monday. It also came alongside significant Google news. The technology company announced the introduction of its Willow quantum-computing chip. This latest achievement can solve a problem that would take the world’s fastest supercomputers 10 septillion years to process in just five minutes. According to Google, the new chip “demonstrates error correction and performance that paves the way to a useful, large-scale quantum computer.” Google Quantum Chips Challenge Bitcoin Conversely, X users are concerned that Willow could easily tamper with Bitcoin’s complex math SHA-256. Should this be the case, it would end up compromising the network. Their concern comes from the fact that Willow has reached 105 qubits with improved error rates. For context, the qubits help quantum computers process problems much faster than normal computers. Articulating these concerns, pseudonymous analyst and tech expert Cinemad Producer stated on X that “Willow has 105 qubits, which is great for quantum experiments but far from what’s needed to break Bitcoin’s encryption. Experts estimate you’d need about 1 million high-quality qubits to make a dent in Bitcoin’s security.” However, a 2021 research study by Universal Quantum, also associated with the University of Sussex in the U.K., discovered that a quantum computer with 1.9 billion qubits is enough to break Bitcoin’s encryption. For now, it is not yet clear if the quantum FUD fuelled the drop in prices of BTC and IBIT. One thing is certain though: the damage has already been done.
