U.S. and Japanese authorities revealed that the attack was affiliated with the TraderTraitor group, known for social engineering tactics. The hackers gained access to crypto wallet company Ginco’s communications system through a malicious Python script sent via LinkedIn. They later intercepted a legitimate transaction request from a DMM employee, leading to the theft. North Korea has been responsible for over half of crypto thefts in 2024, totaling $1.34 billion.
